The Odyssey begins:

Here's some history from the Shane & family ~ the founders of DirtTrackCowboys.com.au...

Inspired by the treks and shows of the Leyland Brothers as well as Brad McCarthy's "Dirty Weekends" series of 4WD books, this web site has been developed for all those who are interested in family friendly holidays and getaways in rural Australia, with a special focus on motocross and trail riding as a family activity.

We have found off-road riding an incredibly social sport and well suited to all ages, and we would like to encourage as many people to "go on, get out there; see Australia" on two wheels ( or four if you ride a quad ) as much as possible. Hopefully we can make the journey easier by sharing our experiences with others.

Our long term goals are to develop a central store of experiences in this web site and eventually we hope to publish a comprehensive book on our experiences and open our rural retreat to work in with our IT business ( Landau Technologies QLD P/L ), which specializes in small business and medical practices across Queensland.

In early 2003, a series of factors came together, including our first real holiday in some years. During this time we decided that we wanted to take up a past-time that we can all enjoy and participate in together - parents and children. Given our diverse interests, ( our oldest is 16 and youngest is 8 years old ) there seemed to be only one real answer that we could agree on - camping and motor-bikes.

We soon found that finding places to  holiday and ride together were not as common as they may have once been; and finding out about these places was not easy as we first expected.

During this time we also decided that we wanted to diversify our IT business - Landau Technologies, in other directions. We wanted to seek out more rural clients as well as explore other avenues. Thus this web site and hopefully some time in the not too distant future a book about places that are family-friendly and where trail bikes for people of all ages and skills are welcome.

The future:

To date, we have purchased three motorbikes and assorted safety equipment, spares etc and visited a number of parks. Most importantly, we are having a great deal of fun.

We are learning as we go and a big thank you must go out to the various motor-bike shops throughout South-East Queensland for their time. Overall, we have found the friendliness and professional manner of most shops very helpful. Our oldest son is working towards better skills and our youngest son is causing early heart failure for his parents. As at May 2003, we have visited a number of parks and plan to visit as many as possible in the future. Any one who knows of a trail bike park or area that welcomes riders, please let us know so that we can add it to our list.

As we strongly perceive that there is a real need for quality IT support in rural and remote Queensland we hope to combine these two very diverse activities wherever possible. After all, no better way to relax after slaving over a hot keyboard than by blasting those blues away.
